TGB Films’ latest documentary short, Miles of Life, follows the journey of Sam Mugisha, a community mentor in his hometown of Kisoro, southwest Uganda. Sam is the founder of Kisoro Running Club, a local running club, and a close collaborator and friend of That Gorilla Brand. His story is one of hope, perseverance, and resilience, showing how his purpose keeps him on track and helps him shift perspective when life doesn’t turn out as expected.

The film offers an intimate look at Sam’s daily life in Kisoro. Moments of optimism and joy sit alongside personal challenges, disappointments, and grief. Today, he works in a small sports betting shop, a reality at odds with his mission to uplift others. In a place where gambling often leads to loss, Sam’s choice to channel his energy into sport makes his story even more compelling.

In 2022, Sam launched Kisoro Running Club to bring people together and inspire the community to dream big. For him, nurturing the young is also essential to building stronger communities. By encouraging children to pursue sport, they are more likely to stay in school, complete their education, and even compete at higher levels. “Through sports, we can all be somebody,” Sam says.

Sam’s life changed when he crossed paths with Salim Brek, a sports coach, community leader and founder of Young Simba FC. Salim gave Sam the chance to compete and sport soon became a lifeline. It gave Sam purpose, helped him finish school, and eventually led him to discover his passion for running. Today, Sam also manages Young Simba FC himself and continues Salim’s legacy of using sport to unite and inspire.

Over the years, our founder Leo developed a close friendship with Sam, witnessing his resilience and determination first-hand. That connection is what brought Sam’s story to the wider TGB community and ultimately inspired the collaboration that became Miles of Life — a film celebrating the power of sport, mentorship, and community.

Created by TGB Films and produced by Biscuit Bunker with director Charli Doherty, Miles of Life captures not only Sam’s journey but also a universal story about how sport can shape lives and inspire change.
