Adventures For A Cause: The Film & Our Journey So Far

Earth Day Every Day: Introducing Our Collaboration with Percival Menswear Reading Adventures For A Cause: The Film & Our Journey So Far 4 minutes

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Whether it’s our ultra-marathon feats or our community conservation projects, everything we achieve with Adventures For A Cause has all been born from taking that opening step.

From our intrepid founder Leo’s very first stride on his very first fundraising mission, Adventures For A Cause has grown into a rolling and expansive journey. Since then, with each successive Adventures For A Cause pursuit, we have continued to gather a loyal and passionate community who have collectively covered thousands of miles of shared runs, climbs and hikes across numerous countries and vast landscapes over three continents.

Every mile covered by our Adventures For A Cause community has helped to raise the extensive funds necessary to build resources, supply tools and deliver skills to the rural communities living beside mountain gorilla habitats. Through harnessing activity, adventures and sport, Adventures For A Cause unites like-spirited people who look to push boundaries, make a difference and create a positive impact. And we are only at the beginning of our journey to do good; we have many more miles to cover, and every step we take together strengthens the road to achieving great things.

Leo ran his first solo marathon over Icelandic glaciers to raise funds to build a clean water system in a rural village in southwestern Uganda. This single challenge grew into a further five adventures, and this one clean water system flourished into a programme of clean water schemes, giving birth to our Bwindi Community Water Projects. To date, Adventures For A Cause has funded projects including clean water systems, sanitation, solar, and education initiatives. These efforts have made a direct positive impact on 25,000 people in neighbouring villages, and when factoring in indirect benefits, that number reaches up to 175,000 people.

Our clean water mission has formed the solid foundation for the development of more Adventures For A Cause expeditions and more community projects for positive impact. We have since completed a further two adventures to raise money for the installation of essential hygienic sanitation systems in several schools, and our last marathon around Lake Annecy in France raised extensive funds to construct and equip a much-needed village primary school, building upon our Bwindi Community Projects. Our latest Adventures For A Cause, currently in development, will be our third expedition in the Grand Canyon, raising funds for new water projects in the communities living alongside endangered mountain gorilla habitats.
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to around 459 mountain gorillas, about half of the world’s entire population. Clean water and safe sanitation, along with renewable energy and education, are a lifeline for the rural communities that reside around mountain gorilla habitats. Giving these communities access to the essential things in life most of us take for granted helps them to create sustainable futures independently, which in turn lessens the tension between humans and animals, encouraging a more cohesive and harmonious ecosystem.Adventures For A Cause encapsulates energy and action. With every step we walk or run in our group marathons, with every tread we take outside of our comfort zones, we engage in challenging physical activity for our bodies and personal growth for our minds and spirits. Every adventure we plan starts with a mission: a community conservation project that will benefit a local community. Each of these challenges, through our shared paces and shared vision of this goal ahead, takes direct action towards achieving this mission. We engage in community action, action that helps to better equip people to create their own sustainable and independent futures. Every step counts, big or small. Every step can lead to innovative and inventive accomplishments.
